cancel culture - a new phenomenon

What a terribly negative way to give someone feedback online.
By "virtually" canceling them out.
Taking away your support.
Making it known that you aren't in favor of something that you used to be.. or following someone because you're interested in what they're saying but then canceling your following because you don't agree.
------

Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming.

"Cancel culture" came into the collective consciousness around 2017, after the idea of "canceling" celebrities for problematic actions or statements became popular.

To cancel someone (usually a celebrity or other well-known figure) means to stop giving support to that person. The act of canceling could entail boycotting an actor’s movies or no longer reading or promoting a writer’s works. The reason for cancellation can vary, but it usually is due to the person in question having expressed an objectionable opinion, or having conducted themselves in a way that is unacceptable, so that continuing to patronize that person’s work leaves a bitter taste.

URBAN DICTIONARY

TOP DEFINITION
Cancel CultureA desire to cancel out a person or community from social media platforms.
It is characterised by the response of an evil individual when they are shown to be wrong. They will call on their followers to report the social media accounts of the person or group that did the criticising rather than discussing the criticism or showing by evidence where the criticism is incorrect.
Narcissists make up the majority of the people who engage in cancel culture, and others who do this would include immature individuals.
Johnny was criticised for being vindictive against Janny and instead of discussing the problem, Johnny called on his followers to report the account, cancel culture style, of the person who made the criticism.
The McRae Boomer was offended because of some dictionary definitions he read and applied cancel culture by calling on his followers to report the definitions rather than having a good belly laugh at them.

it’s okay

It’s okay if the only thing you can do to get you through the day is scrolling mindlessly through your social media feed.

It’s okay if you’re living on coffee some days.

It’s okay if the only human connection you have for weeks or months is through online messaging or texting.

It’s okay if you live in your robe, pajamas or sweats.

It’s okay if your only hairstyle for days on end is barely brushed and messy bunned.

It’s okay if you fall apart and need to retreat and cry.

It’s okay if you need to ask someone to come over and help you clean your house because you just can’t... wearing a mask, of course. ;)

It’s okay to be where you are right now.
It won’t last forever.
It’s only for a season, even if the season seems long.
You can do this.
You will get through.
You will pull out of it, whether it’s someone helping you or a personal victory.

Seasons change, and come and go, and new growth comes after the storms.
Grab an umbrella and a best friend.. you got this.

"you sleep too much" life with chronic fatigue and other comorbidities

Sometimes people say this and don't realize it can be hurtful in a way.
We don't want to be tired all the time, we don't like being exhausted.. but this is the way life is, and I'd like to shed some light on it.

when you wake up sweating and can't cool yourself down, it's hard to sleep
when you have restless legs and even your medication isn't helping
when you go to bed early and then can't fall asleep for hours
when you wake up in the middle of the night and are wide awake

when your anxiety and depression sap all of your energy
when you have a good physical day and do a lot of things like chores, gardening, exercise, etc
when you are in pain because of the weather changes
when you have your period (obviously, only the female body)
when your hormones are all over the place

but wait, there's more..

there's always more.
thats' why it seems we sleep too much.

funny EDS side effect

The other day my husband got new headphones and he had me try them (they are like buds, inner ear). I tried all three sizes of ends because I could still hear things normally around me. Brian was shocked that my ears didn’t completely seal around them.. I told him it’s probably because of my flexible jaw.

no wonder I hate ear buds. they don't fit! they always flop!

I definitely prefer on ear.. the stability, the pressure, the familiarity of the headband and the security of knowing they won't fall off.

not to mention I've been wearing them all my life.
nostalgic autistic preference.

Why did God name Jesus ... Jesus?

The name Jesus is derived from the Hebrew name Yeshua/Y'shua, which is based on the Semitic root y-š-ʕ (Hebrew: ישע‎), meaning "to deliver; to rescue."

Yahweh, the god of the Israelites, whose name was revealed to Moses as four Hebrew consonants (YHWH) called the tetragrammaton.

In ancient Egyptian Atenism, possibly the earliest recorded monotheistic religion, this deity was called Aten and proclaimed to be the one "true" Supreme Being and creator of the universe. In the Hebrew Bible and Judaism, the names of God include Elohim, Adonai, YHWH (Hebrew: יהוה‎) and others.

Jehovah (/dʒɪˈhoʊvə/) is a Latinization of the Hebrew יְהֹוָה‎, one vocalization of the Tetragrammaton יהוה‎ (YHWH), the proper name of the God of Israel in the Hebrew Bible and one of the seven names of God in Judaism. ... The derived forms Iehouah and Jehovah first appeared in the 16th century.

In the words of the Nicene creed: We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. So we worship Jesus because of his divinity.

Christ means anointed, according to Easton's Bible Dictionary. Anointed is the Greek word for the Hebrew "Messiah," which is Jesus' official title.

internalized racism - Rashni "betigrewup"

I recently listened to a podcast by Rashni, her channel is called "Betigrewup" - she is a certified life coach who helps people realize who they are and reach their full potential.
She's on apple podcasts, her channel is "Is it worth it? The self-worth podcast". The title of this one is Loathing to Loving.

Here was my response to her, and I felt very validated in my thinking because I was able to pull it apart and really figure out what it means for me.

"It's interesting hearing the view point of someone who was born in a different country, and not just born in the US with the features of someone from a different country. Like someone who is Indonesian, but born in the US versus somebody actually born in Indonesia living in the US. (honestly this much information is a little overwhelming for my LOL. I can't quite wrap my mind around all of it, I might not even finish the entire podcast just because my brain gets overwhelmed very quickly. But the topic is interesting to me.)"

She encouraged me to listen to it in chunks, to not stop but to come back to it when I can. (thank you!)

"I listened to more of it just now. I will finish it today. Thank you for encouraging me to do that, I mentally have problems with things that take a lot of time, especially when they are information loaded. But I did something interesting that you said, when you know your self that you personally are not against any specific race, but at the same time there's something inside that makes you put up your walls or shrink back and get defensive when there is something unfamiliar about a person because of how they look different to you. I never understood what this was until you said the phrase 'internalized racism'. I am wondering if part of my personal experience with this has to do with the fact that I'm autistic, because I've always kind of felt out of the loop socially anyways. I've always tended to gravitate physically and mentally towards people who were the 'outcast' or 'different', but at the same time because my family is European, and migrated over when my grandparents were kids, I've learned and grown up in American culture, so I see the strain and differences between races, but at the same time also feeling like people looked at me like that because of my complexion as well. This is a very interesting topic."

I'm so grateful that she is encouraging me to continue unpacking and decontructing this for myself and figuring out what it means for me.

who you are on the outside

It's nice to have people from places that I've worked notice me and acknowledge me :-)

This also goes for impressions that you leave when you frequent certain businesses and locations. When you go back are they gonna remember you as somebody who was kind and friendly and helpful, or they gonna remember you as somebody who they really don't want in their establishment?

It makes me realize that they remember who I was, they are still happy to see me, and it's a good reminder that our core values really do rub off on the people that were around. It makes a difference what you believe at how you portray your beliefs.
